Texas Hold’em Rules,  Source: Online Casino Conditions

Texas Hold’em is an easy game to learn, and once you have these simple rules down, you’ll be ready to play at any poker room. The first thing that you should know is that there are two face down cards dealt to each player and a total of five face up community cards by the end of the dealing each hand. The object of the game is to use the two cards that you are dealt in combination with the five community cards to make the best possible, five card poker hand. Unlike other forms of poker, Texas Hold’em does not have an ante, instead there are forced bets called “Blinds”. Before the hand begins, the person to the left of the dealer must post the “Small Blind” or half of the minimum bet. The person to the left of the “Small Blind” is the “Big Blind” and must post a bet equal to the minimum bet.

Now that this is taken care of, each player is dealt their “Hole” cards (the two face down cards mentioned earlier) and the person to the left of the “Big Blind” begins the first round of betting. This player can choose to Call, Raise or Fold. In order to remain in the game, the player must put in at least the minimum bet (equal to the Big Blind). Once this first round of betting is complete, the first three of the five community cards are dealt, face up on the table. These cards are called “The Flop”. Now, the second round of betting begins with the person to the left of the dealer and a forth option of “Checking” is now available to this player. The betting continues around the table until everyone has either called or folded. The next step is for the dealer to deal the “Turn” card, or the fourth community card. A third round of betting ensues and then the fifth community card, the River, is dealt and a final round of betting begins.

Once everyone has either called or folded in this round of betting, the remaining players turn over their Hole cards and the winner is determined by who has the highest ranking hand. In case of a tie, the Kickers are used, and if there is still a tie, the pot is split between the people who are tied. The dealer button is passed to the player to the left of the previous dealer.

Now that the rules are covered, you should be made aware that there are three different kinds of Texas Hold’em games; Limit Games, No Limit and Pot Limit. When you are playing a Limit game all of the bets and raises are set at a specific amount and each betting round has a cap on the amount and number of raises allowed. No Limit games determine the max bet by the amount of chips in front of each player. Each player is allowed to bet and raise any amount and have the option to go “All In” (meaning to bet all of their remaining chips on that hand). Pot Limit games determine the max bet by the amount of chips currently in the pot. This opens the opportunity for those with a smaller bank roll to experience a No Limit game without the necessity of a lot of money.
