Seven Card Stud Rules,  Source: Online Casino Conditions

Seven Card Stud is played with anywhere from two to eight players who are dealt a total of seven cards, two face down, four face up and one more face down. The object of the game is to make the best five card poker hand possible with the seven cards that you are dealt.

Seven Card Stud has a couple of “Forced Bets” that you should be made aware of. The Ante, normally 1/5 of the minimum bet, is made to show how is in the game before each hand starts. Antes do not count towards any other bets. Next is what is known as the “Bring In”. after the first round of dealing, the player with the lowest face up card must place a bet equal to one half of the minimum bet. If more than one player has the same low card, the player closest to the dealer’s left must Bring In. Unlike the Ante, this bet does count towards your bet, so unless someone raises during this round of betting, you do not have to add anymore money to the pot for the round.

Seven Card Stud has five rounds of betting. The first round, described above, is known as 3rd Street and is bet on after the first two down cards and the first up card has been dealt. 4th Street is when the fourth card, another up card, has been dealt. The person who has the best hand showing is the player who will bet first. Play will proceed clockwise from this point until everyone has either folded or called the current bet. Next is 5th Street. A fifth card is dealt (face up) to all players. Again, the player with the best showing hand bets first and then play proceeds clockwise until all players have called or folded. Then comes 6th street. This is the round in which the final face up card is dealt. Once more, the player with the best showing hand bets first and then play proceeds clockwise until all players have called or folded. The final round of betting is called 7th
Street and in this round, a final face down card is dealt. Play proceeds as in previous rounds. Any players remaining now participate in what’s known as the “Showdown”. remaining players now show their hands so that a winner can be determined. Players who know they have lost may opt to not show their hands so that the others can’t see what they played. This is known as “Mucking” your hand.

The game of Seven Card Stud is easy to learn and once you have gotten all of the betting rounds down and have a basic knowledge of poker, you’ll be enjoying the game in no time. Because each casino is different as far as betting limits and such, it’s a good idea to check the casino’s rules before entering a game. This way there aren’t any surprises when you choose and begin a game.
